#12 Winter? Not in California!

Feb 3, 2011   //   by Tolzien   //   Weekly Updates  //  No Comments

Let me take the time to re-introduce myself, my name is Scott Tolzien.  I am a senior at the University of Wisconsin studying Consumer Affairs.  I am 23 years old and grew up in Rolling Meadows, Illinois.

There, is that a good enough refresher?  I really need to apologize to you guys.  I know, it has been forever since I last “blogged” with you all.  In fact, I think it was sometime in mid December.  If Mrs. Grisaffe or Mrs. Mueller were grading this as an assignment, I probably would be getting a lower grade for lateness.  So, without saying more, I’m sorry.

The last 8 weeks have been a little bit out of the ordinary.  In December I was in Madison, New York City, Baltimore, and Los Angeles.  Since January 1, I have been in Los Angeles, Chicago, Madison, Boca Raton (Florida), Orlando, and now back out to California.  If you guys need a little geography lesson, find a globe and trace my airplane travels.

I was in Boca Raton training for a week and then Orlando for a week to play in a college football all-star game.  Since then, I have beeen out in California training 5 days a week for football.  Here is what a typical day is like for me on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday:

7:00 am    Wake Up

7:30   Breakfast

8:30-10:30   Speed/quickness training followed with stretching

10:30   Snack

12-2:00   football throwing drills and film review

2:00   Lunch

3:00-5:30    Weight Lifting followed with stretching

6:30   Dinner

*Saturday lift from 9:00am-11:00am

*Wednesdays and Sundays are recovery days

As you can see from the schedule, the days get pretty busy.  By the time the clock hits 10 pm I am lights out and ready to do it all over again the next day.  The nice thing is that I am only enrolled in one class this semester.  I am working with a professor back in Madison where I work on assignments online and submit them online so that I can graduate in May even though I am out in California.

The hotel that I am staying at, The Renaissance, feeds me breakfast and dinnner.  I also have a rental car, a GMC Yukon, that gets me to workouts and to lunch.  So far I have not been able to enjoy the nice weather out here very much.  There have been a few Sundays where I have been able to sit at the pool for a few hours, but I still have not made it to the beach yet.  I am in California until February 22.  Then I go to the Combine in Indianapolis for a week.  This is where the top college players go to get evaluated by all of the NFL professional teams.  They test you in strength, speed, personal interviews, and position specific drills.  For me, the position drills include footwork, arm strength, mobility, and accuracy of my throws.  After the week in Indianapolis, I will head back to Madison to close out the semester.

It has been a grind, but it has also been a ton of fun.  I have played football ever since I was a youngster on the Willow Bend playground, so it is a dream come true to still be playing a sport that I love so much.

How is everything going with you guys?  What is new out there in the COLD.  I hear you guys got pounded with snow. That had to make for a snow day I hope.  I bet all of you have had a ton of fun playing in the snow since the storm.  Has anyone built a snowman, a snow fort, gone sledding, or slipped on the snow?

Things have settled down a bit here, so I hope to give you guys some more updates here the next few weeks.  I still have to post some pictures and videos from the Rose Bowl game.  We have a ton to catch up on!

Sorry for taking so long guys.  I’m glad we are back in business!  I hope you are all ready to attack this semester of school!

On Wisconsin,

p.s. Did anyone see the # 18 Badger basketball team beat #12 Purdue on Tuesday?  It was an awesome game and I saw Bucky on TV a few times.

p.s.s.  Messy Moffitt is in Florida training right now and Beardman is training back in Madison and hopefully keeping the place clean!  I just hope my room hasn’t turned into one big trash can for him!
